Apr. 13, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Shenzhen-listed TCL Corp<000100>, a major Chinese television and mobile phone manufacturer, on Friday published March domestic sales figures showing an amazing 356.6% growth in LCD sales, the Shanghai Securities News reported.
According to the company's statement, TCL sold 361,746 LCD TVs last month, up 53.2% from one year earlier.
During January and March this year, TCL sold around 1.2 million LCD TVs in total, increasing 122.3% year on year. Its sales in the overseas market grew 40.2% and its sales in the domestic market grew 235.3% compared with the corresponding period of the previous year.
Meanwhile, TLC sold 1.66 million units of AV products in the past three months, up 32.4% year on year. The company's management board predicted that it will sell more AV products in the future because the market for Blu-ray DVD and HD DVD is expanding.

Feb. 17, 2009 (China Knowledge) - China's southwestern Yunnan Province began construction of a tourism project near Yangzong Lake over the weekend.
The three-year project will cost RMB 2 billion and will cover an area of around 1.6 sq km.
The tourism project includes a luxury hotel, a golf course and some lake-view villas, as well as spa facilities.
The project will be developed jointly by the U.S.-based Hostetler Zhang Studer LLC (HZS) and Schmidt-Curley Golf Design Inc along with a Canadian architecture company, and a local real estate developer will be in charge of the construction.

Apr. 2, 2009 (China Knowledge) - BYD Co<1211>, China's largest rechargeable batteries maker as well as automobile producer, is in battery supply talks with several automakers from Europe and the U.S., sources reported, citing Chairman Wang Chuanfu as saying.
Wang revealed that the company may sign contracts with one U.S. automaker and two European firms to supply them lithium-ion batteries, which are used in its well-known F3DM sedans.
Selling batteries to overseas automakers will help BYD to further reinforce its leading position in the global electric car market and help it compete with other leading companies in the same field, such as A123 Systems Inc.
BYD's lithium-ion battery cells are rather cost-effective, partly because of its advanced technology and the cheap labor force in China.
Warren Buffet last year bought a 10% stake in BYD for US$230 million mainly because of the automaker's cost-effective technology.

Mar. 23, 2009 (China Knowledge) - China Construction Bank Corp (CCB)<601939><939>, one of the Big Four state-owned banks in China, announced on Mar. 20 that it has secured permission from the U.K.'s Financial Services Authority (FSA) to open a subsidiary in London.
The London unit, which will be the lender's first subsidiary in Europe and its third wholly-owned subsidiary in the overseas market, will offer a full range of banking services; it will accept deposits and engage in lending, trade financing, and foreign exchange.
The London branch, scheduled to open later this year, will not only help CCB to further expand its global financial services, but will also facilitate economic and trade investments and aid financial cooperation between China and the U.K.
The Chinese lender has branches in Hong Kong, Singapore, Frankfurt, Johannesburg, Tokyo, Seoul and New York, and a representative office in Sydney.

Dec. 16, 2008 (China Knowledge) - Shares in BYD Co Ltd (BYD)<1211>, jumped 16.43% on Monday to close at HK$13.32 after it launched its first plug-in electric hybrid car F3DM in the domestic market, sources reported.
The mainland carmaker, in which U.S. investor Warren Buffett holds a 10% stake through MidAmerican Energy Holdings, plans to promote the vehicle in 13 cities, including Guangzhou, Beijing, Xi'an, Qingdao, Tianjin and Wuhan, according to BYD spokesman Xu Feng.
The launch of F3DM, in line with the government's drive to cut emissions, is expected to help BYD gain a competitive edge over its rivals in the green vehicle sector.
The central government earlier said it planned to replace the country's public transportation and taxis by next year with hybrid vehicles, and called for major carmakers to cooperate actively.
Reportedly, the largest rechargeable batteries maker as well as automobile producer in China is also planning to sell China-made plug-in hybrid vehicles in the U.S. and European markets by 2010.

Dec. 10, 2008 (China Knowledge) - Chinese stocks ended higher on Wednesday.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A shares and B shares on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, rose 41.38 points, or 2.03% to 2079.12 points after fluctuating between 2079.55 and 2005.56 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index on the smaller Shenzhen Stock Exchange rose 1.76% or 129.30 points to 7490.29 points, after touching an intraday low of 7228.35 points.
Gainers in the Shanghai market outnumbered decliners by 757 to 60, while 36 were unchanged. Aggregated turnover on the two bourses was RMB 137.1 billion.
Market heavy weight PetroChina<601857><857>, the nation's top oil producer, edged down 0.17% to close at RMB 11.59, while Asia's largest oil refiner Sinopec<600028><386> jumped 0.12% to close at RMB 8.44.
China Life Insurance Co<601628><2628>, the country's largest life insurance company, gained 3.79% to RMB 20.83, while its smaller rival Ping An Insurance (Group) Co<601318><2318> surged 4.31% to RMB 27.83.
China Merchants Bank (CMB)<600036><3968>, the nation's fifth-largest bank by market value, advanced 6.82% to RMB 14.40. Bank of China<601988><3988>, the nation's second-largest lender, rose 1.83% to end at RMB 3.34.
CITIC Securities Co Ltd<600030>, the country's most profitable brokerage, advanced 5.92% to RMB 22.73. Haitong Securities Co Ltd<600837>, a Shanghai-based brokerage, added 2.99% to close at RMB 9.30. Sinolink Securities Co. Ltd<600109> rose 9.84% to RMB 28.35.
China Vanke Co Ltd<000002><200002>, the country's largest publicly traded residential properties developer, gained 2.10% to RMB 7.78. Nov. 28, 2008 (China Knowledge) - PetroChina Company Ltd<601857><857>, the country's largest oil and gas producer, has completed the foundation for storage tanks at its Dalian liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Liaoning province, said its parent China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC)
The project, which involves a total investment of RMB 9 billion, is designed to receive 3 million tons of LNG a year in the first phase of operation. The volume is expected to rise to 6 million tons in the second phase.
The terminal will have an annual gas supply capacity of 4.2 billion cubic meters to be supplied to end users. The first shipment of LNG may arrive around 2010.

Dec. 29, 2008 (China Knowledge) - China's National Council for Social Security Fund (SSF) and China Development Bank (CDB) have agreed to jointly invest RMB 5 billion in infrastructure and civil facilities construction through trust companies, the official China Daily reported.
Under the agreement, SSF and CDB will invest funds in five trust companies, namely China Resources SZITIC Trust Co, CITIC Trust & Investment Co, China Credit Trust Co, Zhonghai Trust Co and Beijing International Trust and Investment Corporation.
These trust companies will be authorized to fund construction projects, including upgrading shanty towns in Xi'an, Shanxi province and construction of Yangpu Economic Zone in Hainan, expressways in Chongqing municipality and subways in Shenyang, Liaoning province as well as the further urbanization of Wuhan in Hubei provinces.
The move is in line with the government's latest policies to maintain economic growth, spur domestic consumption and optimize industry structure.

Feb. 19, 2009 (China Knowledge) - UBS AG, a premier global financial services company, sold around 7.92 million shares in Dongfeng Motor Group Co Ltd<489> for about HK$22.9 million on Feb. 13, according to statistics posted on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEx).
The Swiss bank sold the 7.92 million shares at an average price of HK$2.89 apiece. After the transaction, UBS reduced its shareholdings in the Chinese automaker to 9.73% from the previous 10%.
Dongfeng Motor saw its passenger vehicle sales in January dropped 3.1% year on year, outperforming a 7.8% fall in the country's overall car market, as per industry sources.
Dongfeng Motor, which cooperates with Honda Motor and Nissan Motor, sold 62,560 vehicles last month.
Shares of Dongfeng Motor, the third-biggest automaker in China, edged down 2.3% to close at HK$2.91 on Wednesday.

郭强说：“这一点，在十几年前，的确很难。那会儿，谁听说有黑枪和走私枪的？你黑得起来吗？可这会儿，那就不一样了。社会上流散着一些走私进来的黑枪。虽然三令五申查禁，可以说是禁而不尽。”
“方雨林现在在哪儿？”金局长突然问道。“上一回我不是给您汇报过了吗？怕他再捅娄子，暂时让他去桦树县的一个基层派出所锻炼锻炼……”“桦树县？桦树县哪儿？”“桦树县的双沟林场……”金局长一怔：“双沟林场？周副市长的老家？你把方雨林派到那儿，想干什么？”“没想干什么……”金局长正色道：“没干什么？不经省市委批准，不给中纪委备案，你们怎么可以私自对一个市政府主要领导侦查？老马，你真昏了头了！”
马凤山忙说：“我们没对他侦查……”“那你把方雨林派到双沟去干啥？”“待命。等待省市委和局党组的行动命令。”
这时，电话铃突然响了起来。打电话的正是方雨林，他说他有紧急情况要报告。人已经进了市区了，很快就能到达这儿。十来分钟后，他打了个电话过来。接电话的是金局长。但他要马副局长接电话。
马凤山笑道：“来就来呗，怎么那么多事？你到哪儿了？”接过电话，他大声问道。
这时，方雨林就在市局街对面的公用电话亭里。“马局，有些情况，我一时拿不准……是不是先跟您汇报一下，您把老郭叫上，咱们一起琢磨琢磨……等咱们琢磨出个头绪来了，再给局领导汇报，行不？”
马凤山问：“怎么了，我就不算局领导了？”
方雨林忙解释：“我没那意思。我这不是拿不准，想先跟您请示请示嘛。”
马凤山笑着放下电话，对金局长说：“那我和郭强先去听他说说。然后再来跟您汇报？”
金局长笑着点了点头：“这个方雨林！”
马凤山和郭强赶紧回重案大队队部。方雨林正在后院的一间厢房里闷头吃饭。他显然饿坏了，吃得狼吞虎咽。一见马凤山、郭强两个人推门走进，忙不迭放下碗筷站起。“吃，你吃你的。”马凤山摆了摆手。“你小子，这时候吃的是午饭呢，还是晚饭？”郭强在他头上拍了一巴掌笑道。“午饭晚饭？我这是早饭！”方雨林一口喝完碗里所剩的稀粥，撂下碗筷和半块还没吃完的馒头，抹抹嘴就说：“两位领导，我说说？”马凤山忙说：“别慌，别慌。吃完再说。”方雨林笑道：“不吃了，留着点肚子，一会儿跟你们去撮大盘子。”郭强笑道：“嗨，撮大盘子？谁掏钱？你掏？”方雨林作出一副瞧不起人的样子，叫道：“哎哟，你们这些坐机关的大爷噢！”
“好了好了，快说吧。一会儿我请你们去西口的小饭馆吃酸菜鱼。”马凤山挥了挥手。方雨林笑道：“郭强，瞧见没有？这才是当领导的料儿！瞧你那劲儿，永远当不了局头。”马凤山笑嗔道：“方雨林，你没完了！”
方雨林拿块抹布，擦了擦桌子，然后从随身带着的那个公文皮包里拿出几张放大了的照片，放在马凤山面前。
“又是什么照片？”马凤山问。
方雨林指着照片上的一个男人：“您瞧瞧，认识这个人吗？”
郭强凑过来仔细看了看：“好像在哪儿见过！”
“哪儿见过？来凤山庄啊！”方雨林说道。
郭强大悟：“喔！那个杂务工。”
方雨林眼睛一亮：“对，就是他。就是那个先说自己没瞧见张秘书上哪儿去了，后来又一口咬定亲眼看见一个背小包的陌生人叫走了张秘书的杂务工。”
